Brazil president closer to impeachment as coalition partner quits

President Dilma Rousseff’s hopes of seeing out her term of office have received a potentially fatal blow after the biggest party in the Brazilian congress voted to abandon her ruling coalition. The vote by the Brazilian Democratic Movement party (or PMDB) could trigger a defection from Rousseff’s coalition by other smaller parties, and greatly increase the prospect that she will lose an impeachment vote in the lower house next month and be suspended from office.

Company Invents Gun That Folds Up to Look Like a Cellphone

A Minnesota company has invented a handgun that folds up to look just like a smartphone. The .380-caliber pistol, called Ideal Conceal, will be available later this year and "will be virtually undetectable because it hides in plain sight," Ideal Conceal says on its website. In locked position, the two-shot plastic gun with a metal core can be discreetly slipped into pockets, like a real phone. But "with one click of the safety it opens and is ready to fire," Ideal Conceal claims.

Gawker Being Sued by Ex-Yahoo Employee Following Hulk Hogan Lawsuit

Gawker Media is being sued yet again after the blogging network’s traumatic defeat to Hulk Hogan earlier this month, this time by a woman from Portland who claims the news outlet defamed and invaded her privacy through an article in 2007, and she wants $74,000 in reparations. Teresa Thomas claims that a 2007 Gawker gossip column which speculated she was dating her boss at Yahoo caused her to be at a loss both professionally and personally in her life since.

Google unveils landline phone, which lives in cloud

Google on Tuesday unveiled a new landline telephone service aimed at helping consumers stay connected in the Internet cloud. The new Fiber Phone service will be made available to a few US markets and later expanded to other cities where Google offers high-speed Internet. The new service adds a few high-tech features to the landline, such as transcribing voice mails and delivering them as written messages, and connecting with mobile phones when consumers are away.
