Colo. couple arrested for stealing Christmas decorations

They're not the brightest of bulbs. A Colorado Springs couple was arrested after getting caught with $2,000 worth of stolen Christmas decorations in their front yard, police said. Carrie Carley, 42, and her 18-year-old husband, Jeremy Lewallen, were charged with stealing from 13 neighbors Dec. 19.

Russia says to supply coal, electricity to Ukraine

Russia has agreed on a new deal to supply coal and electricity to Ukraine, which is struggling with a lack of raw fuel for power plants due to a separatist conflict in the industrial east, Russian officials said on Saturday. The move comes a day after Kiev said it would suspend train and bus services to Crimea, effectively creating a transportation blockade to and from the region annexed by Moscow in March this year. Kiev has briefly cut off electricity to Crimea before.

Wanted extremist leader surrenders in Somalia

A leader with the Islamic extremist group al-Shabab, who had a $3 million bounty on his head, surrendered in Somalia, a Somali intelligence official said Saturday. Zakariya Ismail Ahmed Hersi surrendered to Somali police in the Gedo region, according to the intelligence officer, who insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press.
